Benefit Cosmetics has
made a name for itself by creating high-quality products with a sense of
humour. The brand was founded by the identical
twins Jane and Jean Ford.
In 1976, after a successful stint in
modeling and commercial work, Jean and Jane opened their first store,
called The Face Place, in San Francisco. Their passion for makeup, mixed
with their originality and wacky sense of humor, made the shop a virtual
candy store for beauty.
The Face Place also served as the site where the twins
concocted their very first star products: Benetint, Lip Plump, and Ooh La
Lift. The shop grew famous for delivering quick fixes
for beauty dilemmas, and the twins successfully built Benefit Cosmetics
into a global beauty brand.
The
legendary rose-tinted lip and cheek stain, Benetint,
was originally concocted in 1977 for an exotic dancer who requested
a sweat-proof way to look flushed. Not wanting to turn down a beauty
challenge, the twins concocted a mysterious pink potion made with steamed
rose petals. Decades later, this revolutionary, ruby-hued cheek and lip
tint is still one of Benefit's top sellers. Other
great buys are BADgal lash mascara and High Beam luminizing lotion.
