Do
you
think that if you're over size 14, you can't participate in fashion
trends?
Think again!
Small Shopping
World has put together 15 fabulous fashion
tips to flatter plus sized women.
Avoid shapeless clothes.
You should not wear anything that resembles a tent
of any kind, because that will make you look bigger. It is better
to look for clothes that have great fit and
structure. They will accentuate your
favorite features, and hide the ones you don't like. Clothes without
proper tailoring will make your body appear larger than it really is.
Be careful with black. Contrary to
popular belief, black is not necessarily the most slimming or figure
flattering colour you can wear. Monotone coloured outfits can be just as
flattering, maybe even more
flattering, than plain old black. Wearing additional colors
around your face will bring attention to your skin tone, face shape and
eye color. Black tends to wash out most skin tones.
Avoid tapered leg styles in jeans and
pants. A plus size figure, or any figure for that matter, is not
complimented by the cone shape of a tapered leg pant. Instead, choose a
wide-legged trouser that
goes straight from the hip down to the
floor. If your hips or butt happens to be a problem area for you,
you should try to find a plus size jean that
slightly flares out at the bottom, to balance
out the volume of the hip. A straight or
slightly flared leg pant will elongate your legs,
making them look longer than they really are.
Be careful with sweaters, tops and
jackets that go below the hip. A short body frame can look even shorter
with overly long plus size tops. A top or jacket that stops just at the
hip bone will elongate your legs to their longest potential.
Go for
V-neck sweaters or tops to create the illusion of a longer neck. Taller
people usually have longer necks, and the V-shape neckline
- better than a scoop neck -elongates the neck. You'll automatically look taller.Shirts with a V-neck
also tend to make your bust look a little
higher and better proportioned.
Try an
A-line skirt. When your skirt
flares away at the hem, it gives the illusion of an hourglass.
Avoid skirts with pleats and gathers. These will make you look more
bulky and round.
Invest in a properly fitted bra. Get
measured at a lingerie store or a department store to be sure that the
bra you are wearing is the correct fit. Many women, without realizing
it, are wearing the wrong size bra. This will
usually lead to sagging and bulging of the
bust line. Wearing
well-fitting foundation garments will make
you feel more comfortable, and contribute to
a stylish, put-together look.
Pretty lingerie is available in department stores catering to larger
women, but you can also shop online.
Remember, size should be no barrier to feeling sexy.
Avoid
clingy fabrics if it clings to all the wrong
places. Heavier fabrics, like cotton or cotton
canvas, control the body more than stretchy polyester. The clothes can help shape the body rather than the body shaping
the clothes.
Layer with a sweater or jacket. Wrap
tops are very flattering and are a wonderful solution for layering. Be
sure to wear your outer layer a little bit shorter with your longer
shirt or tee underneath. This way if the under layer is figure-hugging,
you won’t feel overly exposed but will still have shape and coverage.
Also, you want to wear your jackets buttoned to nip in your waist just a
bit.
Jazz up simple
outfits with bold accessories. But be careful about not overdoing it!
You can shop at just about any store for funky
jewelry, designer handbags, wide width shoes,
and pretty scarves to spice up your wardrobe.
Attention to detail can add style and polish to any woman's wardrobe,
but for a plus size woman, these little extras can really make the
difference between being well dressed and in style.Jewelry doesn't have to be
expensive to be impressive, and costume jewelry can be just as much fun
to wear.
Stay away from
accessories that look dinky.Carrying a little bag or wearing itsy-bitsy
jewelry actually makes you look bigger. Pay attention to proportion when
it comes to bags, accessories and jewelry.
Be careful with
horizontal stripes. To create long, lean lines, any stripes on the
garment should be vertical, Horizontal stripes are not always bad,
though. If your lower body is a lot bigger than your upper body,
you can use a horizontal stripe on your upper body to make it look like
it's more in proportion to your lower body.
Do not dress in
big patterns from head to toe, unless you break it up with solids.
If you choose to incorporate prints in your wardrobe, you should
match the print size to your height. If you are tall, you can pull off a larger print.
Finish
off the outfit by adding a great pair of
pointy-toed highhealed shoes,
preferably in a wide width size. This will create an illusion of even
longer legs.
To polish up your
look, splurge on a good hair stylist. It is surprising how a great new
hairstyle can improve your overall appearance.
